The science behind INTENSIVE8®


The ‘PSYTREC approach’ is based on a 6-year University of Oxford research project into an intensive treatment method for PTSD (Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy 2010, Ehlers et al; Am. J Psychiatry 2014, Ehlers et al).

The INTENSIVE8® treatment programme will be constantly improved and are supervised by: Prof. A. van Minnen PhD and Prof. A. de Jongh PhD

Both professors are opinion leaders in the treatment of anxiety disorders and work together with a variety of important research centers. They are part of PSYTREC and guarantee the scientific approach.

Prof. A. van Minnen PhD

Radboud University Nijmegen, Director Treatment Programme

Prof. A. van Minnen is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist and professor by special appointment in the area of Anxiety Regulation and Treatment of Anxiety Disorders at the Radboud University Nijmegen. She has specialised in treating PTSD and dissociation for many years and has combined her clinical work with research. She is a great advocate of Exposure therapy for anxiety disorders and PTSD.

Prof. A. de Jongh PhD

University of Amsterdam, Director Scientific Research

Prof. A. de Jongh is a Professor by special appointment in the area of Anxiety and Behaviour Disorders at the University of Amsterdam as well as (since 2011) Honorary Professor in psychology at the School of Health Sciences of Salford University in Manchester, and at the Institute of Health and Society of the University of Worcester, both in the United Kingdom. He specialises in the treatment of trauma-related anxiety disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In 1993 he introduced the EMDR treatment method in the Netherlands and is an EMDR-Europe accredited trainer in EMDR. EMDR is currently one of the treatments of first choice for psychological trauma and is applied by the majority of psychologists carrying out treatments based on evidence-based guidelines in the Netherlands.
